Alf Carlsson/Jiří Kotača Quartet (SWE/CZ/SK)
Swedish guitarist Alf Carlsson and Czech trumpeter Jiří Kotača founded this captivating jazz band. The leaders of the quartet first met in Rotterdam during their studies. Alf Carlsson comes from Stockholm, where he is already an established player on the local scene. Apart from his own projects, such as the Swedish Alf Carlsson Quintet, he collaborates with last year's semifinalist of the Thelonius Monk Competition, Tippan Phasuk, aka the Mai Agan Trio. Jiří Kotača collaborates with well-known names of the Czech scene - Kamil Slezák, Vincent Kummer and Radek Zapadlo (Heart of Dixie, Drumless Quartet and Cotatcha Orchestra). The quartet mixes the lyrical influences of Scandinavian music and contemporary New York and European jazz with a hint of Moravian and Slovakian folklore, creating a unique combination of sound and original interpretations of its own and cover songs.
