Vertigo
Vertigo is one of the most original Czecho-Slovak groups. It was founded in 2002 by the pianist, Vojtech Procházka, the saxophonist, Marcel Bárta, the bass player, Rastislav Uhrik, and the drummer, Daniel Šoltis. Later, the trumpeter, Oskar Török and the singing cellist, Dorota Barová joined the group. Their aim was to find their own musical language. The impetus for this was the medium of jazz. Gradually, through their versatility, they arrived at their own unique sound.
Vertigo's music is characterised by total improvisation, creating sophisticated compositions bordering on contemporary classical music, as well as refined song forms. They have released six albums, won three musical Golden Angel awards and been nominated a further four times. They have played dozens of concerts in both Czech and foreign venues, mainly clubs and festivals. Thanks to the their unflagging enthusiasm and indisputable musical qualities, Vertigo has created an original identity within the European musical scene.
