Tribute To Wayne Shorter
František Kop / Marcel Bárta / Petr Kalfus/Jakub Doležal
Some of the finest saxophonists of the Czech jazz scene will play a tribute to the great of world jazz Wayne Shorter.
Several ensembles will perform Wayne Shorter's compositions from different periods of his career. Wayne Shorter (August 25, 1933, Newark, New Jersey - March 2, 2023) was a saxophonist and composer, often described as one of the most important American jazz musicians of his generation. He was the recipient of several Grammy Awards and recorded more than 20 solo albums under his own name, and contributed to many others as a collaborator. In the late 1950s he was a member of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, in the 1960s he was the saxophonist in Miles Davis's second quintet, and in the 1970s he was one of the leaders of the jazz-rock band Weather Report. Not only was he, like Miles Davis, present at all the major developments in jazz, but he was also one of the most important agents of those changes. He leaves behind a tremendous compositional and performance legacy and rightly ranks among the greatest legends of world jazz.
