The Survivors play Ska and Reggae
The Survivors is a new band surviving present times by playing music that has already survived other times or is yet to survive future times. The Survivors story begins back in 2017 at a concert in Saudi Arabia, when they experienced a sand storm and were lucky to have survived the impact of a falling stage ramp with lights. Since then, through music, they’ve been channeling—and surviving—the causes of other, perhaps slightly less dramatic, events that life throws our way.
For their January concert at JazzDock, they are preparing a special repertoire consisting mostly of old Jamaican pieces by The Skatalites and The Ethiopians. They will also perform some lesser-known songs by the legendary Bob Marley. Joining them on stage will be saxophonist Cyrille Oswald, with whom they released October 2024 a joint live album, "First Live Round", recorded at JazzDock in March 2023.
