The Old Time Memory Jazzband (DEU)

The Old Time Memory Jazzband, founded in 1962 by students at the Friedrich Schiller Universität in Jena, has since become one of the most popular and well-known Jazz bands in Germany. In spite of a radical personnel rejuvenation, the musicians still stick to the same style of jazz: the two-beat jazz of Louis Armstrong during the twenties. With trumpet, clarinet and trombone for melody and banjo and sousaphone for rhythm, a characteristic sound is created with a stylistically pure performance of solo and tutti improvisations. Besides traditional New Orleans Jazz, the band also plays good old Chicago Dixieland, enhanced by polyphonic singing.
