SUNDAY DIXIE
J. J. Jazzmen
The band J. J. Jazzmen formed in 1993. Under the leadership of Jan Jirucha ("J. J."), who lent his name to the band, the band has performed with the program "Remembrance of Louis Armstrong" on both the home music scene and abroad: in Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, France, Italy, England, on Mediterranean Jazz Cruise and in the USA. A special guest - a former colleague of Armstrong's and member of his "All Stars" band, clarinet player Joe Muranyi, gave a performance in March and June 2000 in Prague and Berlin together with J. J. Jazzmen. The following year, J. J. Jazzmen were honoured by receiving an invitation to perform in the "cradle" of Jazz and birthplace of Louis Armstrong at the famous New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in May 2001.
After band leader Jan Jirucha passed away in December 2005, J. J. Jazzmen performed under the leadership of drummer Miloš Kejř with a project called "Contemporary New Orleans Sound". With this program, the band took part in festivals in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, (Chivas Jazz Festival Praha, Trnava Jazz Festival, Slaný Jazz Days, Swing Festival Praha, Jazz Goes to Town Hradec Králové, Hořice Jazz Nights 2012 etc.) and abroad: in Denmark (Fredericia a Odense), in Germany and in Austria (Jazz Fest Burg Lörrach, Erlanger Jazz Band Ball, A Boat Full of Jazz am Rhein, Cotton Club Hamburg, 42.
