Skip Wilkins Quartet (USA/CZ)
Pianist and composer Skip Wilkins boasts many CD credits as both leader and co-leader, as well as performing as a sideman with international luminaries, including the National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master, Phil Woods. His recent releases include Czech Dreams, Father & Son and Live at Jazzinec, which features Skip with his current European group: Trio WUH (Wilkins, František Uhlíř, Jaromír Helešic). Czech Dreams features Skip writing for and playing with an ensemble of great young Czech musicians, including Libor Šmoldas, Tomáš Baroš and Tomáš Hobzek. On Father & Son, Skip and his son Daniel join forces with the other members of Skip’s New York Trio, bassist Scott Lee and drummer Jeff Hirshfield. A brilliant young saxophonist, Dan studied at the Manhattan School of Music and is active leading and performing with a range of groups in New York and Pennsylvania, as well as in Europe where he has toured extensively.
