Russ Spiegel is a guitarist, composer, arranger and actor, known especially for having written multiple film scores for Hollywood movies. His musical career began with bachelor studies at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He went on to receive his master degree at the City College of New York, having studied under NYC creme-de-la-creme, such as Ben Monder, Paul Bollenback and John Pattitucci. Afterwards, he lived for many years in Germany, collaborating with local jazz musicians including the world-famous jazz organist Barbara Dennerlein. As a member of her touring band, they also recorded and released multiple albums together. Russ has also been a part of American pop-culture by coaching and instructing the young actors for the Nickelodeon TV-series “The Naked Brothers Band.” Russ leads a successful big band in the US, performs with small groups, records CDs of his original music on a regular basis and is a member of the faculty at the University of Miami. Currently he is touring his latest critically acclaimed record Wait a Minute! and working on a new album slated for release later this year. Collaborations: Tony Bennett, Joel Frahm, Tony Lakatos, Benny Bailey, Hendrik Meurkens, Jim Rotondi and Jeremy Pelt. For this special one-time concert at Jazz Dock, Russ will present a hybrid group oscillating between a traditional quartet with piano playing modern jazz, and a groovy band with Hammond organ and alto sax playing 60’s-style soul jazz.
