Roman Pokorný Jazz Trio
One of the greatest living Czech guitar players, Roman Pokorný has released a new album Cab to Cotton Club in honor of Duke Ellington, recorded in studio Svarov with Dano Šoltis on drums and Brian Charrette on Hammond organ. Pokorný’s energetic music draws mainly from the jazz mainstream with blues roots: the hardbop, or “soul jazz”, that was popular in the 1950s and 60s, but retains its magic, energy and grateful listeners. The sound and aesthetics of this style could be characterized by a list of famous albums: George Benson’s Cook Book, Grant Green’s Grantstand and Kenny Burrell and Jimmy Smith’s Blue Bash, to name a few. To date, Pokorný has released nine albums and is rightly ranked among the best that the Prague jazz scene has to offer.
