Gerald Clayton Trio (USA)

After last year favorable GUITAR DAYS FESTIVAL we present another  theme fourdays festival dedicated to jazz piano. There will perform front world pianists: Luis Perdomo, Gerald Clayton, Aaron Goldberg and Kevin Hays. They will be accompanied by several Czech piano players and afternoon workshops for talented musicians. Festival is supported by Ministry of Culture. There will be new Yamaha piano ready for this event! 

The young American Pianist Gerald Clayton belongs to a new and innovative jazz generation whose members grew up with hip hop, electronica, ambient, indie rock and singer-songwriter folk and who are now processing these influences in their own work. Born in Utrecht, the Netherlands, Gerald Clayton was raised in sunny California and took piano lessons from early childhood. Later, at the University of Southern California, he studied under renowned artists such as Kenny Barron. Virtuosity, discipline and  musical playfulness are his defining attributes. Gerald made a name for himself as a musical sparring partner for big names such as Mulgrew Miller and Hank Jones, and has performed with artists including Clark Terry, Al Foster, Diana Krall and Dianne Reeves.

His current album "Life Forum" is full of typically characterful statements, with his love of melody underpinned by masterful rhythm changes. "Life Forum" is the third recording under Gerald's own name and his debut album for Concord Jazz. Gerald is brilliantly accompanied on the album by his trio partners Joe Sanders and Justin Brown plus a host of other outstanding musicians including Logan Richardson, Dayna Stephens, Ambrose Akinmusire and Gretchen Parlato.  In 2014, Gerald received his fourth Grammy nomination.
