Omar Hakim & Rachel Z “OZ Experience”
DRUM DAYS

Saturday 21/04/2018 from 21:00

ft. Linley Marthe & Louis Winsberg (USA/F)

CLUB OPEN AT 8PM

Following years of successful touring and recording as “The Trio of OZ”, master drummer Omar Hakim and critically acclaimed, Grammy winning keyboardist/pianist Rachel Z, embark upon a new project and dive into new territory on a project named the "OZ Experience". The OZ Experience is a groove centered, spontaneous compositional project, enlisting exciting new (and old) musical partners. First to join the band is phenomenal electric bassist Linley Marthe (from Mauritius) who was a member of the “Joe Zawinul Syndicate” for the last 5 years of the legendary keyboardists & bandleaders life. On guitar, they are sometimes joined by prominent French master guitarist Louis Winsberg, who is a co-founder of the popular group Sixun and founder of the group Jaleo. He also has a new album released March 2018 entitled “Tales for Michael” of all Michael Brecker songs.

Drummer Omar Hakim is one of the most famous drummers in the world. He has collaborated with artists including Sting, Peter Gabriel, George Benson, Mick Jagger, Lionel Richie, Chaka Khan, Bobby McFerrin, John Scofield, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, and Madonna, Marcus Miller, Mike Manieri, David Sanborn, Bobby McFerrin, Chick Corea, Richard Bona and with bands like Weather Report or Gil Evans’ Big Band. His early successes led to many more high profile engagements, and by the end of the 1980s Omar had performed on landmark recordings with artists such as Miles Davis (Tutu, Music from Siesta), Dire Straits (Brother in Arms, Money for Nothing) and Sting (Dream of the Blue Turtles, and the popular “rockumentary” movie Bring on the Night). His drum solo in Sting’s movie on the song “I Burn For You” is considered by many fans and critics alike to be one of the greatest drum solos to be documented on film. In the early 1990s Omar toured and recorded with Lionel Ritchie and international pop superstar Madonna, working with her for eight years. During this period, Omar was also called in to work on the sessions for Michael Jackson’s “HIStory” album. In 2012, Omar received an interesting call from the band Daft Punk to participate on their Grammy-nominated album “Random Access Memories.” Omar’s infectious groove can be heard on their smash single “Get Lucky”.

His wife pianist and composer Rachel Z, led to the birth of a very special collaboration called The Trio of OZ.  Their first album is a critically-acclaimed collection of re-imagined alternative rock and pop songs with an improvisational twist. The Trio has been super busy for the past three years, touring the world and delighting audiences wherever they go. Linley Marthe was the last bassist for the late, great keyboardist Joe Zawinul, and has been wowing audiences around the world with his incredible musicianship and deep groove. A master of electric and upright bass as well as piano, Linley's sound and style have made him one of the most sought-after sidemen in the world. He's a composer and arranger for many artists on his native Maurice Island. Linley was the last in a long line of great bassists (including Jaco Pastorius) to perform and record with the late, great keyboardist, Joe Zawinul, who passed away in 2007. Linley has performed with the Paco Sèry Group, Antoine Hervè, Michel Portal, Francois Jeanneau Quartet, Francis Lassus Nguyen Lè, Louis Winsberg, Karim Ziad, Cheb Mami, Mino Cinelu and Richard Galliano. Brilliant French jazz guitarist Louis Winsberg completes the quartet. He has collaborated with artists such as Christian Escoudé, Gerard Marais, Jean-Pierre Como or Paco Sery. The meeting with Jean-Pierre Como and Paco Sery in 1984 resulted of the formation of the Sixun group, with whom he recorded 9 albums, 3 clips and performed numerous tours in France and abroad. Louis Winsberg is one of the first in France to have used the synth guitar. He is very attached to research on the melody, harmony and timbre. He is very interested in ethnic music and their rhythmic aspect.
