Novak–Barta Quartet
ft. Honzák & Simpson
The jazz scene can look forward to a fresh and exciting project bringing together four outstanding personalities of the contemporary jazz world. At its core is the well-established duo of vocalist Mirka Novak and pianist Kristina Barta, who perform together regularly and last year opened the concert of Grammy-winning singer and composer Nicole Zuraitis. Mirka Novak, who began her musical journey in the U.S. in 2012, has released two albums—the second, recorded with the Hlaskontrabas Octet, was nominated for the 2024 Anděl Awards in the Best Jazz Album category. Kristina Barta, a prolific jazz composer with three studio albums and a newly completed fourth, has graced renowned stages including Montreux Jazz Festival and Jazzahead! For this special concert project, the duo expanded their lineup to include two remarkable musicians: Jaromír Honzák, a prominent Czech double bassist, composer, and five-time Anděl Award winner, and Jessie Simpson, a dynamic New York drummer known for his international collaborations and rhythmic precision. Together, they form a unique quartet set to present an evening of original compositions from all members, along with distinctive interpretations of jazz standards—some even featuring Czech lyrics. The concert promises to be not only a musical experience but a celebration of international jazz collaboration, where depth, sensitivity, and vibrant energy intertwine.
