The Nick Haywood Trio is one of Australia’s leading collaborative improvisation ensembles. The trio is best known for taking simple themes and allowing complexity to unfold as a collective exploratory process. Nick, with pianist Andrea Keller and drummer Niko Schäuble, will be playing original tunes by ensemble members, some lesser played jazz standards and tunes not usually associated with jazz, alongside free improvisations.

Nick Haywood is one of the most in demand bassists and educators on the Australian music scene. He boasts impressive performance and recording credits with both Australian and international artists, having performed and recorded with Mark Murphy, Billy Harper, Malcolm Pinsen, Nat Adderley, Louie Bellson and Joe Williams, to name but a few. Nick has been a featured artist on over 100 albums and has been nominated for numerous ARIA awards and he has performed at many major jazz festivals, both in Australia and internationally. Nick was invited to present two concerts at the 2019 Melbourne International Jazz Festival with Petra Haden. A recording of the performances was released by ABC Jazz in 2020 and was shortlisted for a prestigious ARIA award for “Jazz Album of the Year” in 2021. The Nick Haywood Trio with Petra Haden also released the album Back to the Garden in 2021 to critical acclaim.
