Muff
The experimental groove-jazz band Muff was founded in 1999 and consists of five distinctive musicians. Their music is a collage between jazz and rock, in a light haze of psychedelia intertwined with electronics and samples. They have three critically acclaimed albums to their credit. In 2019, Muff celebrates 20 years of existence with the release of their fourth full-length album, again on the Polí5 label. At the Jazz Dock concert, they will play their current repertoire that has matured over the years in concert, offering both their "hits": the Wizard, Barely, Raz dva tré quatro or Work song 2147, as well as older compositions completely transformed by momentary improvisation.
"Muff is an all-star band of the Czech professional scene of musicians of the younger middle generation. They are mostly referred to as jazz musicians, but their range is very wide and covers genres from pop to alternative." "...Typical of the band is the joy of being able to play. The musicians have no limitations and can afford to juxtapose completely different kinds of music - laid back jazz-rock alongside psychedelic surfaces, hard rock bordering on rock and improvisational pieces and strong melodies in the instrumental parts." Ondřej Bezr, iDnes.
"Strong themes, often carried by the unison of guitar and tenor or soprano saxophone, sharp arrangement cuts and thrilling bottom figures, but also almost lyrical moments and then completely relaxed passages, all hold together, and even after multiple listens there is still something to discover. Muff is one of the best that has been created in the Czech Republic in recent years." Daniel Konrád, Hospodářské noviny.
