Michelle Nicolle Quartet
Michelle Nicolle is celebrated as Australia's finest female jazz singer. Bell Award (2017), Mo Award 2001, 2003 & 2004, National Jazz Award 1998 - the judges included the legendary be-bop singer Sheila Jordon (USA), and Kurt Elling (USA) A.R.I.A Finalist (Australian ‘Grammy’s’ equivalent) 2001, 2004, 2009. Michelle is a jazz musician whose chosen instrument is Voice. Leading her band with a quiet dignity, Nicolle’s apparent ease at difficult, and varied improvisation, bring to mind the skills of singers like Betty Carter, Mel Torme or Ella Fitzgerald. But she sounds like none of those singers. Michelle Nicolle is a jazz singer in the true jazz tradition with the ability to get right to the heart of a song, whilst being a creative and masterful improviser with the technique to match any instrumentalist. An arranger and band-leader of her MNQuartet , she’s released 9 CDs the and toured extensively throughout Australia and internationally, with performances including Tokyo Jazz Festival, Jakjazz (Indonesia),Jarasum Jazz Festival (South Korea), Turkey, Estonia, Finland, North Sea Jazz Festival (Netherlands),Asia Pacific Festival (Russia), Prague Jazz Festival (Cz Republic), Trinity Laban, London and JEN Conference, Frost School of Music (Miami), JazzVox in Seattle, University Of North Texas, Oceanside Jazz Festival (Mira Costa), Sidebar, (New Orleans), G Spot, (LA), Classic Pianos, (Portland, OR), Jazz Lounge (San Diego), Kulak’s Woodshed (LA) The Blue Building (NYC).
