Composer, guitarist, singer, producer and lyricist, Michal Pavlíček is a prominent personality on the Czech music scene. He was co-creator of the legendary rock band Pražský výběr (Prague Choice), as well as being the founder and composer of the groups Stromboli and Big Heads. His song Země vzdálená (A Distant Land) with lyrics by Ivan Hlas became one of the biggest hits of the 1990s. As a composer and performer, he has participated in CDs by Zuzana Michnova, Monika Načeva, Bára Basiková, Kamil Střihavka and Richard Müller. He has written music for 23 theatre performances, including Aquabelles, The Very Blue Bird and Cherry Orchard. He has also written music for more than 40 television shows and series (e.g., The End of the Big Holiday, The Victims, The Good Neighbourhood, A Place in Life, Life is a Ball, and Journeys Home), as well as 16 feature films (e.g., Why, Shadow Can't Escape, In the Attic, Leaving, Will Jesus Come This Year? and Agave). He has composed music for the ballets Strange Joy of Living, Beauty and the Beast and The Little Prince for the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava. As a composer, he has also made a name for himself on the international scene. He has written music for six episodes of the BBC historical series Red Hippo, the children's series Outlaw and is one of the composers of the music for the British fantasy series Merlin IV. In Prague, he composed music for the Laterna Magica shows Minotaur and Riddles, and the musicals Clown, Excalibur, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and The Lady with the Camellias. He was the co-author and main protagonist of the Czech Television music program Na Kloboučku. He has released over 70 CDs and DVDs and has won countless awards. He is the recipient of two Anděl Awards and has several gold and platinum records to his credit.
