Martina Barta & David Friedman & Friends
The renowned Czech jazz singer Martina Barta, who has been living in Berlin for several years, returns to the Jazz Dock with her new band consisting of world class jazz musicians, led by the legendary American vibraphonist David Friedman.
After an almost two-year stay in New York, where she had the opportunity to study as a holder of the prestigious DAAD scholarship in the master's program in Jazz Arts at the renowned Manhattan School of Music, Martina returned to Europe. During her time in NYC, she had the opportunity to collaborate with great jazz musicians such as Buster Williams, Ingrid Jensen, Marc Cary and perform in legendary cultural institutions such as Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Dizzy's Club and Birdland, to name but a few. As part of her October concert at the Jazz Dock, Martina will present herself with a new repertoire alongside the virtuoso jazz vibraphonist David Friedman, with whom she has been performing as a duo since 2019 and will release their first album You Taught My Heart to Sing (Malletmuse Records) in October 2024. The concert will include compositions from the repertoire of Nancy Wilson and Sarah Vaughn, who are undoubtedly among Martina's singing idols, as well as compositions by Burt Bacharach & Hal David in original arrangements and several original compositions.
