Libor Šmoldas NYC Trio
ft. Adam Nussbaum & Jay Anderson
Czech jazz guitar star Libor Šmoldas presents his New York trio featuring a rhythm section from any musician’s dreams. Drummer Adam Nussbaum and double bassist Jay Anderson have been a permanent fixture on the New York Jazz scene, as well as festivals and clubs across the globe. To name but a few of the most prominent of their collaborators, they have accompanied Michael Brecker, Toots Thielemans, Gil Evans, Stan Getz, John Scofield, John Abercrombie, Joe Lovano, Lee Konitz, Sonny Rollins, and a host of other stars of the jazz world. The leader, Prague-based guitarist Libor Šmoldas, has played with James Morrison, Bobby Watson, Jeff Ballard, George Mraz, Sam Yahel, Brian Charette and many more top musicians from Europe, the USA and Australia. Though firmly anchored in straight-ahead jazz and bebop, Libor’s style spans modern jazz, Brazilian music, blues, funk, soul jazz and beyond. Critics have praised his smooth, effortless and melodic approach, as well as his apparent love of jazz and his audience. The Trio has been performing and recording for over ten years. They have released three albums (Dreamtime, 2015, On the Move, 2016 and Dusk, 2020) consisting mostly of Libor’s original music, but also jazz standards and even some Beatles, James Taylor and music from Godfather. Live performances of the group are full of improvisation, interaction, energy and instrumental mastery always in the service of melody, mutual communication and a captivating jazz rhythm.
