Lage Lund Trio ft. Ben Street/Anwar Marshall (NOR/USA)
JAZZ OF FOUR CONTINENTS
Described as a "guitarist who balances his abundant proficiencies with an aesthetic of gleaming calm" by the New York Times, the Norwegian-born Lund hit the ground running following his win at the 2005 Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz International Guitar Competition. Praised publicly by such jazz-guitar icons as Pat Metheny and Kurt Rosenwinkel, Lund became a fixture of the Rising Star guitar category of the DownBeat Critics Poll, and has appeared as a member of David Sánchez Quartet, Mark Turner Quartet, Seamus Blake Quintet, and on Maria Schneider Orchestra's 2017 Grammy winning "Thompson Field” - the title track being a feature for Lund. 2019 sees the release of Terrible Animals (Criss Cross Jazz), a vibrant set of original material developed and written for his working band with Sullivan Fortner and Tyshawn Sorey, with Larry Grenadier as a special guest. The results are stellar as Lund continues to refine his artistry, bringing tonal clarity and an unerring sense of proportion to his music. A “casually magnetic” presence on the stage, “channeling reticence into a whisper-quiet mystique” – New York Times. “All music and all soul” – Russell Malone. “Of the younger cats, Lage Lund is THE one. He’s a wonderful player, scary actually!” – Kurt Rosenwinkel
