Krisztián Oláh Trio (HUN)
Krisztián Oláh is a pianist, composer, arranger born 1995 in Budapest. He began playing piano at the age of 5, and studied classical piano in the Béla Bartók Conservatory. Now he studies both classical and jazz piano at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. In 2013 he won the prize for the „best instrumental performer” on the 5th International Jazz Competition in TarguMures. In 2014 he was selected to the grand final of the Nottingham International Jazz Piano Competition. Also in that year he got a special award “The most creative performance” at the 25th International Jazzpiano competition in Vilnius, Lithuania. In the summer of 2015 Krisztián won the 3rd prize at the world famous Montreux Jazz Piano Competition, and also won the Creative Art Prize, which is founded by György Vukán. In October he received two famous awards in hungary, the Junior Prima Prize and the “Jazzmusician of the year 2015”. He founded his band “Oláh Krisztián Trio” in 2011 with his friends Daniel Serei (drums) and Vilmos Schildkraut (double bass), and they began performing at clubs and festivals all over the country. Their music has a wide range of influences, including contemporary classical music, baroque music, jazz music of the 50s, 60s, and folk music from all over the world. They mainly play original compositions written by Krisztián Oláh, but they also play rearrangements of jazzstandards, and classical pieces. In the beginning of 2014 Krisztián founded the Colour Art Ensemble, where his trio and a classical chamber orchestra play together compostitions written and arranged by himself. This year he began to play also solo piano concerts, and recorded a solo piano album of original compositions and improvisations. The album will be released in spring 2016.
