The Mediterranean Gypsy Swing Experience (ISR)
KHAMORO
The first gypsy jazz evening of the 24th annual of the World Roma Festival KHAMORO will belong to The Mediterranean Gypsy Swing Expediente from Israel. The origin of musicians coming from Israel but plying Romani music arouses curiosity. Although Israel is not one of the typical "suppliers" of gypsy jazz, the combination of Romani and Yiddish music suggests a unique sound. The fact that a clarinet plays in this quartet, which does not often appear in conservative gypsy swing bands, is a guarantee of originality. The leader of the band is the great double bass player Oren Sagi, who is, among other things, the founder of the now well-known band Swing de Gitanes. Other members of the band is his brother, guitarist Alon Sagi, backing guitarist Dror Shimoni and violinist and clarinetist in one person, Yonatan Miller.
