Prim (AUT)

The May concert will feature the Austrian jazz ensemble Prim, which was founded in 2015 in Vienna, and which sets the direction in which Austrian jazz should go. While the trio draws inspiration from a variety of sources - from the Neil Cowley Trio and GoGo Penguin to the compositions of Johann Sebastian Bach - it has managed to create its own unique sound, which has been described as adventurous and edgy music that defines genre classification. Their style is experimental yet accessible, their playing virtuosic yet fun. Their latest album Garnet Tales (Alessa Records, 2020) demonstrates the band's willingness to constantly experiment with sounds and schemes to achieve a great storytelling quality. The album is a sophisticated, lively blend of lyrical ballads and funk tracks, and has been described as Prim's "gem".
