JAZZ DOCK ORCHESTRA plays Duke Ellington
50th Anniversary Concert
The Jazz Dock Orchestra is celebrating! It's unbelievable, but the October concert marks the 50th performance of our big band. Long-term and regular activity brings great results, and at this moment the Jazz Dock Orchestra already ranks among the leading European big bands! Cooperation with musicians such as Kurt Elling, Richard Bona, Ben Wendel and Niels Klein brought the band a wider awareness on the world jazz scene, as well as a formidable reputation, which will surely continue to grow. The output of the orchestra focuses on its original compositions (especially those by Jan Jirucha, Andy Schofield and Miroslav Hloucal), but also on its high-quality arrangements of the classic big band repertoire (Duke Elligton, Bob Brookmeyer, Charles Mingus, Gill Evans, etc.).
After a long time, Duke Ellington will again be on the repertoire: first, his famous Nutcracker Suite, which is a paraphrase of Tchaikovsky's ballet, and then some individual compositions from the pen of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn.
