The Amplified Acoustic Band is a rootsy new band with blues, folk and soul influences—and a sound as unique as their line-up. There is quite simply no other band like them in the Czech Republic. Based in Prague, they are fronted by acclaimed English songwriter, singer and guitar player Jamie Marshall, who is joined by three exceptional musicians, all well known in the Czech live music and studio scenes. Delivering an eclectic mix of Jamie’s original songs and their signature arrangements of a broad range of covers, the band’s distinctive sound comes not just from the voices of their two lead singers, Jamie and Svatka Hlávková Štěpánková (who also plays double bass), but from their all-acoustic instrumentation. The Amplified Acoustic Band are a one-off: charismatic, individual, musically divergent and distinguished by their world-class vocals and instrumental excellence. They have an unparalleled ability to plug right into an audience and lead them on a magical musical journey (voc; g; g; b; perc).

Jamie: "It was January 1981. I was bored with office life and energised by things happening in music in Britain. So I left my job in marketing, saying goodbye to a company car and a regular paycheck. The only reason I was a "professional" musician was because gigging was the only thing making me money. I played in bars mostly, in and around London, as I had done before I stopped full time employment. It was tough to begin with. There were times I was so broke that I went shopping with the small change in my pocket and a calculator. I promised myself that I would give it two years . . if I couldn't make it then I would return to my office life. Happily I never did! In the 44 years since this time, I have played thousands of gigs to a few million people . . . I've met and worked with some great musicians and have done things that I never would have done if I had stayed in my career job.  It's been a brilliant ride . . . and I'm not done yet. I am really looking forward to playing my 70th birthday gig in my favourite venue.
