Fusion of jazz with classical music of northern India

Founded in 2008, the Harpreet Bansal Trio combines North Indian classical music, jazz, various styles of folk music, contemporary classical, Bollywood and more. The Indian-Czech-Norwegian trio is a unique project in the field of bridging differences and has deservedly garnered acclaim from music critics and audiences alike.

Harpreet Bansal is a Norwegian violinist and composer with Indian roots who has in recent years established herself as one of Norway’s most interesting musicians. Her unique approach to India’s deeply rooted ragga tradition draws inspiration from jazz, folk and contemporary classical music. She is one of Norway’s most sought-after performers, regularly appearing at prestigious festivals at home and abroad. She has performed as a soloist with such prominent ensembles as the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra.

Vojtěch Procházka is a versatile leading Czech pianist and composer, active in the field of jazz and improvised music. After studying at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory in Prague, he studied for two years at the Conservatoire Nationale Supérieur de Musique in Paris. He then completed a one-year exchange stay at the Norwegian Musikkhogskole in Oslo, where he was subsequently accepted for a master’s degree. His main projects include the Harpreet Bansal Trio and the local bands Vertigo, Monika Načeva & Zdivočelí koně and Luboš Soukup’s Freetown Quartet. Procházka also improvises for silent films and composes film music.

Andreas Bratlie is a drummer, percussionist, singer and composer who graduated from the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo and works freelance for various artists and ensembles from electropop to contemporary jazz. In recent years he has regularly collaborated with Bertine Zetlitz, MiniMacro Wind Ensemble and Harpreet Bansal Trio.
