Free Balkan Quintet
Free Balkan Quintet is an ensemble based in Prague, who with dignity and courage adapt the folk music of the Balkans. Mixing into it influences of jazz, contemporary music and free improvisation, the unique rhythms and melodies of the East remain more (or less) intact. Imaginative arrangements are concocted by guitar/banjo player Tomáš Mika and Australian accordionist Kieren Alexander, who are joined by violinist Milan Jakeš, bassist Ondřej Komárek, and Jaroslav Noga on drums (among other things).
Kieren Alexander – acc; Tomáš Mika – g, banjo; Milan Jakeš – vln; Ondřej Komárek – cbs; Jaroslav Noga – dr, toys.
