David Dorůžka & Marek Urbánek
The idea to play in a duo with world-class musician David Dorůžka came when Marek Urbánek was visiting NYC for two months. After studying together for six years in the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory and the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, Marek knew that his idea had to be realized. These wonderful musicians will perform original pieces, as well as jazz standards and songs they both like. You can enjoy the very special momentum and flow of music as played in a duo. Marek Urbánek is one of the prominent young voices of the Czech jazz scene, having built up an impressive CV in a short time. He has toured and recorded with Melanie Scholtz, Brian Charette, Osian Roberts, Sharon Lewis, Shauli Einav, Pat Bianchi and Bob Montgomery. Often lauded as one of the leading figures of the Czech jazz scene, David Dorůžka has been active as a professional musician since the age of 14, having played concerts all over the world with many top musicians: George Mraz, Jorge Rossy, Chris Cheek, Kendrick Scott, Dan Tepfer, Bill McHenry, Jon Fält, Marcin Wasilewski, Rodney Green, Daniele di Bonaventura, Marta Topferová, Aga Zaryan, The Tiburtina Ensemble and Iva Bittová — to name a few!
