Daniel Bulatkin Quintet ft. Cyrille Oswald (RU/CZ/NDL)
Daniel Bulatkin is a new face of the Czech jazz scene. When he was 15 years old, he won 3rd place in the prestigious solo piano improvisation competition ‘Pianist of the Year 2015’ organized by the Petrof company. He is a private student of many recognized pianists in the Czech Republic and abroad (Omer Klein, Brian Charette, Vojtěch Eckert, Jiří Levíček etc.) and he also perfects his craft on several workshops (among others with the bebop legend George Cables). The new jazz ensemble under his leadership was formed in August 2016 on a studio session with American players Neil Wetzel (alto sax) and Gary Rissmiller (drums). The original premise of the group was to perform less known compositions of famous musicians of the post-bop era (Bill Evans, Woody Shaw, Herbie Hancock etc.), however, the group now focuses more and more on original compositions of all members. The formation of the band consists, aside from bandleader Daniel Bulatkin, also of the Dutch saxophonist Cyrille Oswald (Arturo Snadoval, Albert Vila). Daniel Bulatkin - p, Tomáš Liška - b, Martin Kopřiva - dr, Cyrille Oswald - sax, Miroslav Hloucal - trp.
