Clarinet Factory
Imagine a musical concoction to which a little clarinet, some classical music education, a twist of ethno, a bit of jazz and a dash of minimalism is mixed and stirred to perfection. Now add a taste for improvisation, buy state-of-the-art electronics and technology, invite interesting guests and then start researching, creating, and communicating with your audience. A particular genre will emerge from this environment you’ve thus created, a genre which can have various things in common with the term “crossover,” but more appropriately should be expressed as “music without borders.” A quartet of excellent clarinet players from the borders of contemporary and classical music, jazz, world music, electronica and multi-genre projects. They were successfully showcased at WOMEX 2015 and released their album Meadows (2017) internationally with the Belgian label homerecords. Clarinet Factory have also composed film music, as well as compositions for theatre and ballet. “They are absolutely original, unique and great” – Gerald Seligman, respected American journalist and producer. “Music without borders that will jinx you like a voodoo priestess and whose hypnotic filter will not let go” – Jean-Claude Vantroyen (BE), Soir (05/2017)
“My favourite Czech group [at Colours of Ostrava 2015] was Clarinet Factory, four guys all playing clarinets, including an impressive bass clarinet. That’s hardly a conventional ensemble and their music is equally genre-defying. They supported the ultra-hip Hidden Orchestra (who are fans) in London last November.” - Simon Broughton (UK), Songlines, (03/2016)
