Bill Warfield & Czech Jazz Workshop All Stars

A dynamic and innovative composer, bandleader and trumpeter, Bill Warfield has energized audiences, performers and writers for more than four decades. He has performed with such diverse artists as Ornette Coleman, Mel Tormé, David Sanborn, Sheila Jordan, Lew Soloff, David Liebman, Jon Faddis, Buddy DeFranco, Don Braden, Randy Brecker, the members of the Yellowjackets and Sonny Stitt. He has also been busy as an arranger, orchestrator and has been involved in music preparation for Lester Bowie, Eddie Palmieri, Earl McIntrye and Buddy Williams.

As a band leader, he has recorded New York City Jazz (1990) for Interplay Records, The City Never Sleeps (1994) for Seabreeze Records, and a collaboration with guitarist Dave Stryker on Nomad (1995) for Steeplechase Records. The Bill Warfield Quartet has played together in both Europe and the USA. Warfield’s most recent accomplishments are Mercy Mercy Mercy, recorded on the BluJazz label by the Hell’s Kitchen Funk Orchestra in 2015 and Trumpet Story with Randy Brecker on Planet Arts Records, recorded in 2014. These recordings are a celebration of the composer’s formative musical experiences. For this special concert, Bill Warfield has put together a lineup of instructors who teach at the Summer Jazz Workshop in Prague and are all excellent performers on their instruments.
