Dan Tepfer Trio (USA/POL/CH)
ft. David Dorůžka
AMERICAN SPRING
Dan Tepfer presents his new album Eleven Cages at the American Spring festival. Eleven Cages features Tepfer returning to the jazz piano trio format for the first time since the 2010 album Five Pedals Deep (a Sunnyside release with Thomas Morgan and Ted Poor). For Eleven Cages, Tepfer sought to explore the concept of freedom within boundaries, as well as the malleability of time in a seemingly telepathic trio with bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer Nate Wood. Dan Tepfer, a “tremendously gifted” pianist-composer has translated his bi-cultural identity into an exploration of music that ignores stylistic bounds.... Awards include first prize and audience prize at the Montreux Jazz Festival Solo Piano Competition, 1st prize at the East Coast Jazz Festival Competition, and the Cole Porter Fellowship from the American Pianists Association. Well known Czech jazz guitar player David Doruzka will join the band as guest.
