Alejandro Soto Lacoste & Marta Töpferová
The duo of singer Marta Töpferová and Chilean singer/songwriter Alejandro Soto Lacoste is dedicated to the rich tradition of Latin American music. Their repertoire consists of mostly original pieces written by both musicians in rhythms and styles such as the Argentinean chacarera, the Venezuelan pasaje or danza, and the Andean huayno, among others. Marta Töpferová’s unique, velvety voice accompanied by the Venezuelan cuatro and percussion, together with the authentic musical expression of Alejandro Soto Lacoste on vocals and various instruments, is a combination that transports the listener to an extraordinary musical world.
Marta Töpferová is one of the most dynamic singers and songwriters of her generation. She has been heavily influenced by Latin American folk music, as well as Czech and Slavic musical traditions. Marta began singing in two choirs, where she sang a wide range of repertoires in many languages and studied music theory and ear training for eight years. Later, she continued with voice, guitar, Venezuelan cuatro and percussion lessons. Establishing herself as a steady creative force on the New York music scene from 1996-2012, Marta collaborated with some of the best musicians from the Latin, jazz and world-music circles, and this experience forged a captivating mix of styles in her work.
Alejandro Soto Lacoste is a Chilean songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He is a leading musician of the Chilean music scene. He studied piano, guitar, accordion and singing under Chilean professor Fernando Carrasco, focusing on counterpoint, harmony and composition—later assisting Carrasco on projects with the Philharmonic Orchestra. Alejandro then focused on Latin-American folk music and popular songs, composing and collaborating with musicians such as the well-known Chilean songwriter Nano Stern, the group Aranto, and many others. For the last sixteen years, he has been living in Germany and has been working mostly on the Berlin music scene. During this time, he has released three solo albums: Puente de luz (2020), Presente (2013) and Interiores (2008). In 2012, he began playing with Marta Töpferová in the "Trova" quartet, along with another Chilean multi-instrumentalist, Cristian Carvacho.
